Mudjacking Minnesota (Concrete Lifting)
Concrete raising is often called ‘mudjacking’ or ‘concrete lifting’. It is a safe and cost effective method of leveling misaligned concrete slabs.
How does Concrete Lifting work?
At Able Concrete Raising, we serve Minnesota customers by drilling one inch holes into the sunken slab or slabs of concrete to be raised. These holes are about the size of a quarter and are the smallest holes used in the industry. We then pump a slurry mixture of concrete and recycled sand into the hole. This mixture fills the void under the sunken slab, displacing air pockets, and water, and the building pressure lifts the slabs to their original grade. The holes are then patched with cement and the slab is ready for use. The process of raising concrete with concrete results in a repair that is impervious to water and therefore a more permanent fix.
Benefits of Mudjacking:
- Environmentally friendly – less concrete, no waste
- Cost effective – save 1/3 to 1/2 the cost of replacement.
- No color change in concrete
- No damage to landscape or surrounding interior
- Work completed in hours, not days

The History of Mudjacking
The method was developed in 1929 by John Poulter from Mount Pleasant, Iowa. The Iowa Department of Transportation was the first to use mudjacking to raise road slabs back to original grade. By the mid-1930’s there were independent contractors in the private sector. Mudjacking is a popular fix for concrete slabs in Minnesota as our weather can cause unevenness quickly and this technique is a reusable, environmentally friendly, and cost-effective repair.
